My Media Consumption
7:30 am The portal to nearly all of my media activity is my iPhone. I wake up at 7:30 am and immediately check my text messages. I sort through the messages by level of importance, assigning a mental ranking to the individuals. I also check my Groupme account where my work related messages let me know what to expect when I get to my job. By 8 am I am ready to check my Instagram account. I usually scroll through the comments to my posts and respond to them. Following this I comment on accounts that I follow. After this I answer direct messages from my friends. Finally I watch funny videos or pet videos to get me ready for the day in a good mood.
8:15 am By now I am at breakfast with my sister and father. Here we have a non phone policy so my media intake is limited.
9:00 am I am at work. I can only check my phone during my breaks at which time I check my Gmail account to see if my assignments have been graded. I am also checking for shipping information for things I have ordered online.
Later in the day during my lunch break which has no set time, I again check my instagram account. I look for any responses to my earlier texts and comments or any new comments on my posts. At this time I also check my Snapchat account for messages from my friends. I answer them through this media platform as well as communicate with my coworkers. During lunch I also check my dogs instagram account and answer messages left for them.
5:30 pm and I am on my way home form work and I’m back on my phone checking emails, and texts. I also spend time in Instagram checking comments to my posts and stories. Once home I check Youtube for the latest news headlines and follow a story about a terror attack in Moscow. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4IPnwt2bZvk
I also ran across this interesting news highlight about Generation Z and voting.
11:00 pm I check my texts and Instagram accounts for the last time. At this point I am mostly watching reels about cute animals, scrolling through cute dog memes and watching funny reels, and scroll through funny memes just to take my mind off a stressful day at work. Before I go to bed, I check My ASU canvas to make sure that I have all the due dates for my assignments and to see if any of my work has been graded yet.
My media world consists primarily of work, school and social sites with little news on the side. I feel connected to friends and my university in this way.
